Ron Paul For President Again…Really?

April 26, 2011 | Government

Republican Ron Paul is expected to announce yet again that he will be running for the presidents seat in 2012.  The Libertarian Republican Congressman from Texas said on Fox News Monday that he plans to announce his presidential run on Tuesday afternoon in Iowa.

This would be Paul’s third run at the White House the first time was as a Libertarian Party nominee in 1988, then ten years later in 2008 he ran as a Republican but really didn’t do very well as he placed fifth in both the Iowa and the New Hampshire primary.

Paul was one of four Republicans that voted against the 2012 budget proposal created by Republican Paul Ryan of Wisconsin because he felt there was still way too much spending.  Paul wants to abolish the Federal Reserve System and remove US involvement overseas, he also opposes the Patriot Act and the war on drugs.

Also noteworthy is that Paul might not be the only libertarian on the Republican card this election, Gary Johnson of New Mexico has declared his presidential campaign, he also opposes the war on drugs and has admitted to using marijuana as a painkiller before it became legal in New Mexico.

So does Paul really want to lead this country and make the radical changes that he proposes or is he just looking for some attention and for people to hear his views on serious topics troubling the country?  The attention grabbers might be a popular pick next year too as Donald Trump continues to wonder about Obama’s birthplace.  Either way, if an attention grabber causes an upset at the polls or even changes a large number of citizens votes it will be a unpredictable four years that could send this country into a larger tailspin that it’s currently experiencing.
