Popular Bluff MO Remains Underwater as Rain Continues

April 26, 2011 | Transportation, Travel

Popular Bluff Missouri is being protected by a levee that did manage to hold out through the night but citizens and officials are watching it closely as waters are spilling over in some areas.  The Black River continues to fill and has overran the levee in at least 30 locations between Poplar Bluff and Qulin.  Popular Bluff has already experienced some flooding as the police department has rescued 59 people late Monday night.

Over 1,000 homes have been evacuated in the area but no deaths or injuries have been reported in that area of Missouri.  In Arkansas that has not been the case, powerful storms that included tornadoes ripped through the area Monday night and seven people have been according to the AP.  That makes a total of 14 that have lost their lives in storm related incidents this month.

These storms have dropped more than a foot of rain in some places in the last four days.  There is no sign of a let up in the weather.  Many yards are full of water and it has began to creep into many homes.  Sandbagging at this time is not an option and if that levee breaks completly many homes will not be left destroyed.
