Long Island Serial Killer: Adults and Childrens Remains Found Dumped
April 12, 2011 | Travel
Rain and fog has suspended the search for more bodies on the Nassau side of Ocean Parkway today as investigators have uncovered more human remains that are suspected the work of the Long Island Serial Killer.
The body count now at 10 since December 2010 and the latest finds one and a half miles east of Jones beach water tower. The finding was a single skull thought to be part of a previously found body. This may indicate that some of the bodies have been dismembered before being disposed of in a very specific beach of New York.
Searchers have used cadaver dogs, horses and fire truck aerial ladders in an attempt to search the thick vegetation for any more victims. The bodies are strung out over a 3.5 mile stretch of beach with 5 of the bodies found within 500 feet of each other. Authorities have considered clear cutting the thick brish that has made searching for these victims very difficult. Police fear that when spring begins to bloom in the coming weeks the search will turn from hard to near impossible if a clear cut is not performed.
The current search area includes only the beach but police do now have divers that will begin to search the waters for bodies that might have ended up in the water rather than the swampy grounds and thick vegetation.
While several victims appear to have been killed and dumped by a serial killer, authorities have not ruled out the possibility that more than one killer is responsible for the multiply bodies including that of children that continue to grow on Long Island.
