May 20, 2011 | Health
Want to live forever? Well we are getting closer, the estimate of 78 years and 2 months is for a baby born in 2009 says the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. About 2.4 million people died in the US in 2009 which is nearly 36,000 less deaths than in 2008.
A previous report from the CDC said that there was a one month decrease in the life expectancy age but in Wednesday’s report the agency corrected that to 78 years claiming a computer glitch caused the error.
These reports are based on nearly all the death certificates for that year, and more good news the infant mortality rate hit a record low of 6.42 deatch per 1,000 live births, a drop of almost 3 percent from 2008.
Other 2009 highlights
Death rates declined slightly for 10 of the 15 leading causes of death
Suicide passed blood infections to become the 10th leading cause of death
Influenza/pneumonia death rate droppe3d nearly 5 percent
