Connecticut wins it’s third Mens NCAA basketball tournament Monday night by defeating Butler University by a score of 53-41.
Kemba Walker lead the Huskies with 16 points, helping his team to outscored the Bulldogs in the seconds half. Butler shot a poor 19% for the entire game loosing the second title game in two years.
Reliant Stadium in Houston exploded as UCONN win streak topped out at 11 wins in less than a month. Jeremy Lamb a freshman added 12 points for Connecticut which finished the game with one of the lowest title game point total in history. The last time this few of points were scored in a title game was in 1949 when Kentucky beat Oklahoma state with a combined score of 82.
Both teams began the night slow, they only made three of the first 20 shots and Butler took a lead at half 22-19 because of a three point buzzer beater by Shelvin Mack. Mack had his first score of the game just 4 minutes earlier to tie the score at 19.
The second half started well for the Bulldogs as Chase Stigall opened up with a three pointer but then UCONN took control of the game going on a 22-3 scoring spree that Butler could never come back. They truly struggled all night having two scoreless session lasting over 6 and 7 minutes.
Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun became the fifth coach to win the NCAA tournament three or more times.
