Channel 2 Action News has learned that a longtime Atlanta news anchor died Wednesday after suffering a massive spontaneous stroke.

Veteran Atlanta television news anchor Amanda Davis, whose achievements included launching a segment encouraging foster children adoptions and an in-depth series about her alcoholism, has died.

The star had worked at Fox5 Atlanta for 26 years, retiring in 2013.

The broadcast journalist and morning anchor of CBS 46 News whose career spanned more than 30 years passed away earlier this week at 62.

In 2016, Davis opened up about her battles with alcohol addiction in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and talked about how treatment helped her push through. "Her family is asking for privacy at this hard time", CBS 46 wrote online.

Just last week she shared a photo on Twitter of a bouquet of flowers she had been sent in the wake of her stepfather's death. She was traveling to attend her father's funeral in Texas.

As news of Davis' death spread, people offered tributes on Twitter.

"Stay strong, keep praising the Lord", Davis wrote. The anchor struggled with alcoholism while in the public eye, finding herself in a vehicle crash and being arrested for a DUI.
