  • Sheriff: Search underway for missing 3-year-old girl in Jacksonville

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety issued an Amber Alert on Monday for a missing 3-year-old from Onslow County. She has blondish-brown hair and blue eyes.

9 On Your Side has a reporter headed to the scene and will bring you updates as soon as they become available.

Earlier in the day, a team from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) placed white orb devices around Mariah's home to take 360-degree pictures of the property. "Our goal is to talk to every person who lives in Mariah's neighborhood", authorities said Thursday. Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller hasn't said how he believes the child went missing, but said investigators aren't ruling out any possibilities, including that she was abducted or wandered off. In a news conference Wednesday afternoon, authorities asked the public to search around their own homes, barns, and sheds to help look for signs that may help to locate Mariah, adding they should report anything that "looks out of the ordinary".

"I didn't think it was real", Woods told Grace. "That's my daughter. I was like, 'Nah, couldn't be, '" Alex Woods said.

A number of agencies, including the FBI, are assisting Miller's office in the investigation. "She's my baby, she's my everything", the child's mother, Kristy Woods, said.

"Our focus right now is to bring her back, and then to find out what happened", Miller said Tuesday. She said when she checked on the little girl at 6:30 a.m., she was nowhere to be found.

Scores of officers and K-9 units combed the area, and helicopters and a drone buzzed overhead as the search stretched into a third day.

The local Crime Stoppers program is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information deemed "of value or assistance" in the search.

Long told the station she was frustrated that this "may have gotten the hopes of the family up".

Woods also revealed that her daughter has to wear orthopedic leg braces and worries that she won't be able to walk without them.

Kristy Woods pleaded for her daughter's safe return Monday.

Thursday, 2:15 a.m. - The FBI Charlotte office sends out a tweet asking anyone who came into contact with Woods' family on November 26 or November 27 to call the Onslow County Sheriff's Office.
