Sensex Zooms 179 Points to 32776, Nifty at 10099

After a strong start at 32,968.02, the Sensex reclaimed the 33,000-mark to hit a high of 33,008.62 points but profit- booking at higher levels capped the gains. Participants sensed value-buying opportunities after equities' recent lacklustre run, making stock valuations attractive, brokers said.

Mumbai: Benchmark Sensex rebounded by over 352 points to close at 32,949.21 today as investors piled into recently beaten down bank, auto and metal counters. Sensex zoomed 88 points or 0.27% to 32,685.69 while the wider Nifty was up by over 26 Points or 0.26% to 10,070.10. Most Asian shares declined as U.S. policy uncertainty kept sentiment in check.

Broader markets rallied with BSE Midcap index adding 231 points or 1.38 per cent to end at 16,893.61 and Smallcap index closing at 18,031.24, up 1.29 per cent or 230 points.

The BSE market breadth was bullish - 1,860 advances and 818 declines. "A sharp fall in oil prices in global commodities market yesterday (Wesdnesday) also boosted market sentiments", Deepak Jasani, Head, Retail Research, HDFC Securities, told IANS.

Major Asian indices closed higher.

Coal India (-0.7%), TCS (-0.6%), Cipla (-0.4%), and Wipro (-0.5%) were the top losers. Japan's Nikkei advanced 1.45 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.29 per cent, while Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.67 per cent.
