  • Amber Tamblyn Slams Rose Mc Gowan for 'Shaming' Women Who Plan to Wear Black to Golden Globes

Now, Streep has responded in a statement to The Huff Post, denying that she had any idea about Weinstein's crimes and calling for women to unite.

McGowan, who is the face and voice of the movement against sexual harassment, called out fellow actors who plan to wear black as a silent protest during the Golden Globes. In a now-deleted tweet, actress Rose McGowan, who was one of the first people to publicly accuse producer, Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, said that the move was hypocritical given their alleged silence about certain sexual assault claims.

The 44-year-old had blasted Streep saying she will never effect real change as she is happy accepting "fake" awards. I despise your hypocrisy.

Weinstein's wife Georgina Chapman co-founded Marchesa in 2004.

Representatives for McGowan and Streep didn't immediately respond to INSIDER's requests for comment.

In a follow up tweet, McGowan apologized for mentioning the Marchesa brand.

Meanwhile, Streep added that she wasn't deliberately silent over Weinstein's sexual abuse cases. "I spoke to her for over an hour".

McGowan's "Charmed" co-star Alyssa Milano, a staunch supporter of the #MeToo movement, seemingly agreed with Tamblyn's words, replying to them writing, "I stand by every woman in the pursuit of permanent change and gender equality". "I didn't know this was happening", Streep said in a lengthy statement to HuffPost.

"I don't know where Harvey lives, nor has he ever been to my home".

"Rose assumed and broadcast something untrue about me, and I wanted to let her know the truth", she wrote. "I have been to his office once, for a meeting with Wes Craven for "Music of the Heart" in 1998", she said.

Following McGowan's tweet, Tamblyn has now written in response: "Rose McGowan is a friend and while I support her kind of movement, I do not support any woman (or man) shaming or taunting the movements of other women who are trying to create change..." When she won the Golden Globe for her role in the film, Streep jokingly called Weinstein "god" in her acceptance speech. Amber said Rose is her friend, and she supports her form of protest but doesn't appreciate the manner in which Rose criticizes other women.
