Kashmir: 5 militants killed in encounters in Budgam, Baramulla

Four militants including a top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in twin encounters with forces in Budgam and Sopore on Thursday while a civilian was injured in forces firing on protestors near the encounter site in Budgam.

Following specific information about the presence of militants at Futlipora, the security forces had surrounded the village in Pakherpora area of Budgam district in the morning.

An encounter between the security forces and terrorists raged in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Forces cordoned of the village at night and began a search operation.

As security forces approached a house, the militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight which lasted for several hours. Meanwhile, eight youths were injured in clashes near the encounter site in Futlipora village.

Reportedly Sinar Ahmad was shifted to the hospital of Srinagar.

"By the collective effort of Jammu and Kashmir police, Indian Army, CRPF and the people of Kashmir, we have led to the neutralisation of more than 200 terrorists in 2017 alone", S.P. Vaid, director general of police of Jammu and Kashmir said on Twitter. One of the militants has been killed near Sagipora village.

"100 local militants got killed this year in multiple gun battles across Kashmir Valley". At least 77 forces personnel were also killed in different militancy related incidents this year.
