  • Instagram now lets you follow hashtags just like you follow people

Users will also get updates directly to their feed if they choose to follow a hashtag, just like they would get updates from an account. But with the new update, Instagram will allow people to follow entire communities, instead of just singular entities. All you need to do is search for your hashtag of choice, tap it and hit the blue Follow button that pops up at the top of the screen.

As it is with following a friend, the hashtag is included in the user's "Following" list and can subsequently be unfollowed at any time. Once the user started following the hashtag, then they will start seeing posts related to that hashtag in their feed and the most recent stories in their stories bar. Now it's even easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about. While most of us would prefer having more followers on Instagram, the company has decided that we can now follow not only people, but hashtags as well.

Anyone who uses Instagram on a regular basis already knows that the more hashtags you add to a photo, the more likes you'll probably get - that's why some hashtags are overrun with spam.
