Shopian: Two militants were killed in a gun fight while a civilian died in post encounter clashes in South Kashmir's Shopian district.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Wanipora area of Shopian on Monday evening following information about presence of militants in the area, an army official said.

Over eight civilians sustained injuries as protesters clashed with the security forces in Shopian's Batmurran area after the encounter left two militants dead.

"Two militants have been killed so far and the operation is still in progress", the official said. On Tuesday, while the Indian forces were carrying out searches at the site, the exchange of fire resumed again triggering a fresh gunfight, they added. The government forces responded with bullets and pellet fires.

While a civilian lady was killed, more than 30 civilians suffered grievous or minor injuries during the clashes. "She was hit by a bullet in the left side of her abdomen during the massive clashes near encounter site".
