The Vikings acquired Bradford via trade on September 3, 2016, and he suited up in Purple for the first time against Green Bay in Week 2.

One of the biggest roster moves in the National Football League was made on Wednesday when the Minnesota Vikings activated quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and sent Sam Bradford to injured reserve.

Head coach Mike Zimmer declared Case Keenum the Vikings starter for Sunday's game in Washington.

But then he was hurt dropping back during a routine non-contract drill two weeks before the start of last season, leading to the arduous, lengthy rehab and prompting general manager Rick Spielman to trade first and fourth-round draft picks to Philadelphia for Bradford.

Kyle Sloter remains the Vikings #3-quarterback. The quarterback's contract with the team ends at the conclusion of the 2017 season and he will be a free-agent during the upcoming offseason.

"It was just lingering", Zimmer said of the decision for Bradford to have surgery. Nothing else was working, and we just had to try something.

After his super impressive performance in the Vikings' Week 1 win over the New Orleans Saints, Bradford looked as though he could possibly be in for a career year.

Bridgewater was placed on the PUP list to start the season, and he returned to practice October 18, the first day he was eligible. "He's moved well, thrown the ball well". Zimmer said Bridgewater at times has been rusty. "So we just keep going from there and see how this thing plays out". In the meantime, there is likely to be plenty of controversy about the position, even if receiver Adam Thielen says the Vikings are in a good spot.
