  • 'Captain Marvel': Jude Law Lands Male Lead Opposite Brie Larson (EXCLUSIVE)

Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel's "Captain Marvel", sources tell Variety. That post has since been updated to include the most pertinent line of the lot: Jude Law's character, Walter Lawson, will be the all-wise mentor for Carol Danvers as she begins to wrangle her superhuman powers under control.

Variety is reporting that Law is in talks with Marvel Studios to join the cast of Captain Marvel in an undisclosed role.

Larson is playing Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. A photo was recently revealed of him as Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and now this news.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just added yet another impeccable performer to its ranks.

There's no word on what character Law would be playing but early word is that he would be a mentor of sorts to Larson's character in the film. Both of those films are set up at Warner Brothers.

Previously this year, at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel producer Kevin Feige stated that the Captain Marvel movie would take place in the 1990s, preceding all other entries in the MCU except for Captain America: The First Avenger and the TV series Agent Carter.

Captain Marvel has a release date set for March 8, 2019. Ben Mendelsohn is on board to assume the role of the villain of the film, while Half Nelson duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will be directing.
