Google has released an app that will help you better understand, control and save data by showing you apps that are using excess data or just generally monitor the data usage of the apps you have installed.

The app also tells users when they're near to a public Wi-Fi spot, allowing them to logon and save on their monthly data package.

Although unlimited data plans are becoming more and more popular in the United States, the rest of the world still actively relies on cellular plans with limited data caps.

Datally has been testing for the past few months in the Philippines, but has now been rolled out globally on the Play Store to all phones running Android 5.0 or higher.

Based on your own activity, the app will also suggest how you can cut down or suggest nearby Wi-Fi networks for you to connect to.

Apps frequently use data in the background to update content and information.

While blocking apps from using background data will help you save data, it has some limitations. If you find out any app which is eating a lot of your data, you can easily block it with a single tap. The app showcases data consumption by all the apps and enables users to shut off data flow in certain apps as per your choice.

The next option is "Find Wi-Fi" where Google has a list of Wi-Fi networks that are available nearby. But if you're anxiously awaiting the days data doesn't cost you your left kidney, Google's new app Datally could make your life a little easier. Datally is part of Google's Next Billion Users initiative, a program to penetrate low connectivity regions. And what's worse, it's hard to figure out where it all goes.

Understand Data Usage: First, the app allows users to understand their data usage. Keeping the storage management in mind, Datally is as tiny as 6MB.
