There was nearly a 20 percent increase in anti Muslim incidents in 2016 according to the FBI

About 57 percent of the 6,121 incidents reported to law enforcement were motivated by race or ethnicity, with the half of race-related crimes motivated by anti-black bias.

The annual hate crimes statistics figures released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday finds that fifteen of the hate crimes reported in the state a year ago were associated with race or ethnicity.

Meanwhile, nearly one in five of last year's hate crimes were motivated by prejudices related to sexual orientation, 63 percent of them targeting gay men. There were 307 crimes against Muslims in 2016, up from 257 in 2015, which at the time was the highest number since the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Anti-Hispanic or Latino hate crimes also increased in 2016.

"There's a risky disconnect between the rising problem of hate crimes and the lack of credible data being reported", said ADL CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt.

More than half the 4,229 racially motivated crimes were against black people, while 20 percent were against whites, the report shows.

Blatter also famously argued in 2004 that players could boost the popularity of the women's game by wearing tighter shorts. She said she's seen inappropriate behavior from coaches, doctors, press officers - and between players.

The FBI further said hate crimes remain the number one priority for their civil rights unit. The number of participating agencies also varies from year to year.

"No person should have to fear being violently attacked because of who they are, what they believe or how they worship", he said.

"Hate crimes demand priority attention due to their special impact". In 2015, this number was 734, indicating a 19.34 percent increase.

In short, hate crimes can and do happen just about anywhere. Anti-Jewish hate crimes, anti-Islamic hate crimes, and anti-Catholic hate crimes all saw various increases in 2016.

Of those crimes previous year, 25 were motivated by race, two by religion, and 12 by sexual orientation. Crimes motivated by gender identity-bias accounted for 124 incidents.
