Facebook asks users to send nude pictures

  • Facebook asks users to send nude pictures

Wait! Before you send that nude photo to your new flame, Facebook wants to see it.

Global head of safety at Facebook, Antigone Davis, said that Australia is one of four countries involved in this "industry-first" pilot to prevent re-sharing of intimate images on the Facebook family of sites. But it begs the question, how many people are going to send nude photos to the government, and what will a government and a multinational company do with this database of photos?

"Once Facebook is notified, they use image-matching technology to access and tag the image to prevent anyone from sharing it on their platforms", USA Today explained. Instead, the social media giant will only store the "hash" of your photo, not the actual photo itself. Firstly, the user has to upload an explicit photo of themselves to the messenger (later delete the same from chat).

Earlier this year, for example, Facebook shut down a private group called Marines United, in which more than 30,000 members, many of them active-duty Marines, solicited and shared nude photos of their female colleagues.

Revenge porn is a growing issue in Australia, according to e-safety commissioner Julie Inman Grant, who is working with Facebook on the trial.

Facebook says that it recognizes that revenge porn can be an "incredibly devastating experience" for victims. Then the user can flag it as a "Non Consensual intimate image" for Facebook.

Kenya's Kamworor wins New York Marathon men's crown
When crunch time came it was Flanagan, not Keitany, who dominated, impressively leading the final three miles. Flanagan placed sixth in the women's marathon in at the Rio Olympics a year ago , the top American finish.

Grant said the process will be similar to sending yourself an image via email but is a safer and more secure way of sending the nude images, without them going through the ether. Facebook may have a solution for you, though maybe not in the way you expect.

Facebook has finally found a way to protect users from having their nudes leaked and disseminated over the social network without their consent, but it's a little unorthodox.

It is important to note that 4% of United States internet users have become victims of revenge porn, according to a 2016 study.

As a platform (in) directly responsible for the proliferation of revenge porn, Facebook is now trying to help put a stop to it.

"With its billions of users, Facebook is one place where many offenders aggress because they can maximize the harm by broadcasting the nonconsensual porn to those most close to the victim", Goldberg said.
