  • The Woman Who Went Viral for Flipping Off Trump's Motorcade Has Been Fired

"In some ways, I'm doing better than ever", she said. Under Akima's social media policy, "discriminatory, obscene malicious or threatening content, [or] knowingly false" social media content is grounds for "termination of employment".

She told HuffPost and The Washington Post that she'd already been thinking about Trump and the state of the America as his motorcade started to roll by.

Briskman told the Huffington Post the reason she was sacked was because their employees are not allowed to post content to their social media accounts that may be considered "lewd" or "obscene" and according to Ms. Briskman, her gesture to President Trump's motorcade was considered "obscene".

"Basically, you can not have "lewd" or "obscene" things on your social media".

"I'd do it again", she told the Washington Post. She claims a colleague had obvious ties to the company in his Facebook profile when he called someone a "fucking libtard asshole" over the summer, but was allowed to keep his job.

Because Briskman was in charge of the firm's social media presence during her six-month tenure there, she recently flagged something that did link her company to some pretty ugly stuff. The photo soon went viral, and she chose to give human resources at her company a heads up October 30 that she was the person in the photo.

Three days later they told Briskman, a marketing officer, she had to go.

Akima LLC is a government contractor and according to what they said to her, the photo could hurt their business.

Twitter says it has "implemented safeguards" to prevent Trump account deactivation
San Francisco-based Twitter says a customer support employee who was leaving the company is responsible. The company later said , "We have implemented safeguards to prevent this from happening again".

HuffPost offered up the photo in question, along with more detail on Briskman's potential claim against Akima.

She was aware of the comment because monitoring Facebook was one of the tasks that fell under her purview at the company.

"How is that any less "obscene" than me flipping off the president?" she asked. Others took issue with the company firing her, but not another employee who used lewd language in a Facebook comment. "You're golfing again?'" Briskman told WaPo.

Nope. "I'd do it again", she said.

Though different, all three instances highlight the same fact: Political speech in or out of the office can get you fired.

A day later, concerns bubbled up, upsetting the bigwigs at the company so much they fired her. "I'm angry about where our country is right now, I am appalled".

Briskman isn't too upset, however, saying she hopes to find new work with an advocacy group she believes in, like Planned Parenthood. "I am apalled. This was an opportunity for me to say something".
