Baltimore police detective living in York County dies from shooting

"We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Detective Suiter, Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis and the entire Baltimore Police Department".

Baltimore Police say the 18-year veteran was shot in the head near Fremont Ave. and West Franklin Street while working on an investigation around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He was rushed to a trauma center where he was later pronounced dead.

Minutes later the man shot the detective in the head and took off. Suiter was shot in a vacant spot in between two homes, where another house once stood.

Suiter, 42, was shot Wednesday in the Harlem Park neighborhood of West Baltimore, where he was investigating another homicide.

There was a $69,000 reward for information that leads to the shooter's arrest, that has been increased to $169,000 with Gov. Larry Hogan announcing the State is offering $100,000 to go along with the previous reward amount.

While the motive of the crime is still unknown, Suiter's partner was able to provide police with a description of the events surrounding the shooting.

Suiter was the 137th Baltimore police officer to die in the line of duty. Rest in peace, brother.

Expect to see the black bands around badges for some time.
