San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem before games last year, a move that many NFL teams and players emulated this year to protest racial injustice and police brutality. These latest protests come in the wake of a September 25 rally from President Donald Trump, who spoke out on players who choose to kneel for the anthem.

When the Cowboys, including Jones, took a knee before the national anthem in Week 3 at Arizona, wide receiver Dez Bryant said they did so because of President Donald Trump's remarks earlier in the week saying NFL owners should fire any "son of b--" who kneeled during the anthem.

Jones insisted on Sunday that players would stand for the anthem, and doubled down in an interview on Monday, pointing to a league manual that says players "should" stand.

In the two games since, the Cowboys have stood on the sideline as normal.

The Cowboys have a bye this week but will return to action October 22 against the 49ers. "I've got my morals".

"We can not in anyway give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag", Jones said, according to the Morning News.

Added Dallas-based labor lawyer Rogge Dunn of Clouse Dunn: "Jones can do what he wants".

Six dead in Ghana gas station explosion
Photo A natural gas station in Accra , the capital of Ghana , exploded on Saturday, killing at least one person, officials said. A small unit on a tower building at Ghana's parliament also caught fire in July, although the blaze did not cause major damage.

Irving and Moore have not said why they raised their fists at the end of the anthem.

Michael J. Golden, lecturer, trial advocacy program, University of Texas: "In order for professional football teams to be the most competitive they can be, the CBA gives management significant rights to decide who plays and who doesn't - and ultimately who gets cut and who gets kept".

But those political motives of kneeling likely would not protect the players from discipline. They are still being paid, and I don't think they necessarily have the right to play in games.

"That is clearly a term and condition of employment", Cawyer said.

Paul Secunda, director, labor and employment law program, Marquette University: "I've heard a lot of fans talk about Constitutional rights".

Trump tweets that Pence "is receiving great praise for leaving game after the players showed such disrespect for country!" Employment law allows private sector employers great latitude in restricting employee conduct and speech while at work.
