"A number of people have been injured", the London Metropolitan Police tweeted Saturday.

The MET police say they were called to the scene at 2.20pm, to reports of a collision on Exhibition Road.

He said he was first alerted to what was happening when police cars arrived at the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the driver's possible motive.

Those hurt were mostly suffering from head or leg injuries, the London Ambulance Service said, with nine taken to hospital.

The paramedics are on the spot and have been giving medical treatment to the injured people.

The Natural History Museum is located on Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road in South Kensington in south west London.
