  • Henry County police respond to escaped tiger

Reporter Adam Harding asked officers if the animal was alive or dead but they couldn't confirm. Police were out and about looking for the tiger and eventually tracked it down to an #Atlanta neighborhood where it had entered a family's backyard.

A woman who lives in the area says the tiger pounced on her dog before the tiger was killed.

Concerned that the tiger now posed a threat to others, the officers chose to fatally shoot the animal.

"The tiger began to run toward the Meadow Brook community off of Jodeco Road, to the back of a residence and began to attack a dog", police said in a release that noted animal professionals were contacted.

CNN reports that it's unknown where the loose tiger originated from.

Local and state officials have located the owner of the roaming tiger shot and killed by police when it became aggressive in a residential area off Jodeco Road Wednesday morning.

FOX 5 also reported that the dog, a small Dachshund mix named Journey, survived the attack.

Police said the tiger's origins remain a mystery and are under investigation.
