  • JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Arrested

The National Investigation Agency raided the house of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan and seized almost Rs 2.20 crore cash in Kashmir's Budgam on Thursday. Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik while placed heads of both Hurriyats under house detention.

The arrest of Malik and the Mirwaiz's house arrest came a day after the separatist leaders announced they would go to New Delhi to court arrest before the agency headquarters on September 9 in protest against the anti-terror agency's crackdown in the Valley.

In Srinagar, another NIA team raided the joint house of JKLF leader and one-time "District Commander" Shaukat Bakhshi and his brother Shakeel Bakhshi at Gausiya Colony, Bemina.

During in-chamber proceedings, the NIA also said the two had to be taken to various places in relation to the ongoing investigation, the sources said.

The NIA has recently been conducting raids and arresting people associated with the separatist leaders in connection with money laundering and some other cases after India Today exposed their Pakistan link in a special investigative report - Hurriyat Truth Tapes.

On Wednesday NIA conducted several raids at the houses of businessmen in Srinagar and New Delhi.

"During searches, FD worth over Rs one crore and lots of incriminating material, suspect financial records, property related documents and electronic devices have been seized", said the NIA press release.

On Wednesday, NIA had conducted raids on at least 27 locations in Srinagar and Delhi.

Simultaneous raids were carried out by teams of the anti-terror agency on the houses of Ghulam Nabi Sumji, senior separatist leader of Syed Ali Shah Geelani's Hurriyat group, Zameer Thakur, a close aide of Shabir Shah, and Showkat Bakshi, a senior leader of the JKLF.

When asked whether the raids would continue, he said, "no comments".

"These villainous acts by the government would not break the spirit of the freedom loving people of Kashmir", Yasin Malik said before he was arrested from a party office in the city's Abi Gujar area.

Hardline senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest in his uptown Hyderpora residence.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik have made a decision to protest and court arrest at the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on Saturday.

The NIA is also questioning Kashmir Bar Association president Mian Abdul Qayoom and Naeem Geelani and Naseem Geelani, sons of Syed Ali Geelani.
