A pair of manatees stranded in the mud when Hurricane Irma brought unusually low tides to Florida's Sarasota Bay were rescued by sheriff's deputies and concerned residents. Michael Sechler of Sarasota, Florida, saw these stranded creatures beached where formerly there was water and took action to save them.
Placing them on green tarps, residents pulled the manatees more than 100 yards back into the water, CBS News reported.
Strangers banded together to help two manatees stranded by HurricaneIrma.
"One wasn't moving, the other was breathing and had water in its eyes", Sechler said in a Facebook post.
Marcelo shared photos and video from the rescue and they have since gone viral, with over 75,000 shares and 108,000 "likes" to the post.
The manatees were spotted in an area that is usually filled with water.

"So we went for a ride and ended up saving two manatees", he wrote.
The 'tees reportedly "swam off" once they were back in the ocean and hopefully have a strong enough constitution to shake off such a harrowing experience.
