As head of one of the Conde Nast group's most prestigious titles, Carter has been a figure in the glitterati of NY and Hollywood for years.

"Graydon is departing from the magazine after 25 years - even while we're happily aware that this won't be the last we hear of him", Vanity Fair said in a farewell tribute. Aside from the frivolities in which Carter relished, he also published some pretty important and groundbreaking investigative pieces, including the 2005 article that unmasked Deep Throat, Watergate's leaker.

The editor said Trump never got over the "short-fingered vulgarian" insult and that he would receive letters from Trump in response to the description.

"I want to leave while it's in vibrant shape, both in the digital realm and the print realm", he told the Times. They're all on a wall - this is the only wall Trump's built - outside my office.

Late previous year, Vanity Fair's new subscriptions increased 100 fold after a tweet from president Donald Trump targeting the magazine, in which he stated that the magazine had "really poor numbers".

The deficit seemed insurmountable, given the Vols' struggles to that point, but Callaway erased half of it in one blur. Georgia Tech used some misdirection at the snap, letting Marshall roll out to his right with a numerical advantage.

Trump continued to antagonize Carter via his favorite medium, Twitter.

In a statement accompanying Vanity Fair's official announcement, Carter said he was eager to begin his "third act". "So I blew up all the tweets and I framed them all".

His post-celebrity editor plans include a trip to a rented house in Provence, as well as an unnamed future project. "Graydon Carter, no talent, will be out!"

It is unclear who will replace Carter, though Adam Moss of New York Magazine and Janice Min of The Hollywood Reporter are considered viable possibilities - per the Times report.

Indeed, the 68-year old Carter has come to represent different things to different generations over the span of his career.
