Trump DC Hotel Made Massive Profits Amid Ethics Concerns

  • Trump's DC hotel has made $4 million more than his company expected this year

The Trump International Hotel in Washington has become the crown jewel of the Trump Organization ever since President Donald Trump took office in January.

Citing documents from the General Services Administration, the Post noted guests have spent an average of $652.98 per night to stay at the hotel, which includes not only room fees but also expenditures at the hotel bar and restaurant. In fact, according to the new filing, while Ivanka was joining him in greeting the remains of fallen Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens at Dover Air Force Base, she was also quietly earning from the hotel's $2.4 million in revenue (from its opening through June).

The Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. has profited almost $2 million in 2017, according to newly released figures.

"The Trump hotel seems to be able to profit off a much smaller group, even though it is more than half empty". The hotel the analyst is referring to is the recently opened Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, which has this year logged an occupancy rate of 42.3%. Rates for the hotel are higher than nearby competition, and the Journal reports the hotel charges 60 percent higher than its budgeted prices.

President Trump retweets Fox report based on anonymous sources
At a briefing on August 8, Trump said that any further threats from the North Koreans would be met with "fire and fury". Officials at the agency would not comment Tuesday on the report.

Government watchdog groups, competing businesses and state attorneys general have sued about what they call unfair business practices that allow Trump to use the presidency to enrich himself - a tension likely to be heightened by the hotel's nearly immediate profitability. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D., Ore.) called the arrangement "highly unethical".

In the first weeks of his presidency, Trump made an unexpected visit to the hotel for dinner one night. Hm, how might the Trump International Hotel have pulled that one off?

Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, led the development of the project as a Trump Organization executive before resigning to join the White House.

Critics, including government ethics experts and members of Congress, say the president's refusal to divest from his family's sprawling business has created a minefield of conflicts of interests. "President Trump now both owns the lessee, Old Post Office LLC, and controls the lessor, GSA, whose administrator is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the president".
