PS4 Update 5.00 Beta Available Now

Following a recent leak, Sony has officially detailed the features PlayStation 4 owners can expect to get in the upcoming system update 5.0. When a broadcast is linked, a community button appears on the Live from PlayStation spectator screen.

While it will be interesting to hear the feedback from Update 5.0's beta testers, it's important to note that PS4 consoles undergoing the firmware trial may experience "unexpected issues", but Sony has assured fans that they can always downgrade the to current version of 4.73.

A new setting in PlayStation VR has been added: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators' Comments.

Live gameplay broadcasts for PlayStation VR has also been improved.

PS4 Pro will now support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. This setting is off by default, so go to Settings Notifications to disable notifications and go uninterrupted during your videos. For example, users will be able to check on download progress and see new party invites without having to leave a now opened application to do so.

This includes the download progress and new invitations.

The quick menu pop up side bar has also been tweaked, and users will now be able to change the colour from the default black to white, giving the option of contrast for whatever looks better to the user.

Music can already be shared on PS4 using Twitter and Facebook via Spotify and PlayStation Music, but once the update is applied, individual tracks can be shared by sending a message on message on PS4.

You can now share an individual Spotify or PlayStation Music track via a message.

Lastly, the PS4 5.0 system update has added support for Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese languages for the user interface.

Those lucky enough to be selected for the Beta will have received an email with a code that will let them download the 5.00 Firmware file to test drive. If you do this, the pop-up notification will hide the message senders' online ID and will display a generic user icon and message instead.

Another refinement being brought about in the PS4's Update is Sony's decision to give the Friends List greater management tools, such as the ability to set up separate lists of friends. With any luck, this latest patch will be able to lay the groundwork for some much-requested features and improvements for the system.
