Prince Frederik refused entry to Brisbane bar

  • Crown Prince Frederik was in Queensland for a regatta but Princess Mary reportedly did not make the trip

The laws require venues to scan IDs after 10pm if they trade past midnight, but have been blamed for long lines at venue, issues with scanning foreign passports and business suffering losses from would-be punters being turned away or giving up on lengthy wait times.

Asked whether it was a "lie" that the future king of Denmark was challenged and not allowed into the nightclub because he could not prove who he was, Mr Stewart said: "No, no, that is not correct - I am not saying it is a lie - what I am saying is it is just not correct".

"The Prince obviously did not take great offense to this, as he returned a short time later and was granted entry".

Bouncers were forced to deny the prince entry. The prince left the talking to the security team to sort out the misunderstanding.

The law in question came into effect on July 1st of this year.

"If there has been any embarrassment sadly it has been misinformation that is now in the public view", he said. The royal had dignitary protection unit officers with him, but they were wearing civilian clothes.

According to the Queensland Government, ID scanners have been introduced to "ensure the safety of patrons".

The bar's co-owner, Phil Hogan, told News Corp the incident was an example of how the new ID law is "stupid".

Mr Hogan said he had tried to resolve the problem, and called for foreign dignitaries to be excluded from the rules.

"Their first concern was - they're dealing with plain-clothes guys with guns and someone they don't recognise", he said.

Many Brisbane venues haven't exactly been stoked about the mandatory introduction of the I.D. scanners that are apparently meant to keep the city safe, and one venue has just had a particularly embarrassing issue as a result of the new tech, causing them to turn away Denmark's Crown Prince (and husband of former Aussie Princess Mary) because of his I.D.

"It's not going to get rid of scanning, but there's an enormous amount of work involved in running an incorporated body", he said.
