Marvel's The Defenders Gets One More Trailer Before Premiere Day

  • Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones Finn Jones as Iron Fist Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Mike Colter as Luke Cage in “The Defenders.”

The series, which drops all 8 episodes tomorrow, pits New York City's four street-level heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) against Alexandra and her devilish machinations.

Netflix's lineup of hard-boiled Marvel heroes will finally cross paths when The Defenders hits the streaming service on Friday, but fans shouldn't go in expecting a duplicate of the studio's massively successfully Avengers, according to one of the show's architects.

The series follows the releases of Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage and Marvel's Iron Fist.

We've been getting a lot of trailers for The Defenders, but so far, we don't really know that much about the series' main villain Alexandrea who is played by Sigourney Weaver. We talked about movies and cinematic stories where characters came together who did not want to come together, who had their own in-fighting but ultimately came together to fight something bad in some way. Krysten Ritter is back as Jessica Jones.

Deep-space creatures are back in “Alien Covenant.”

Filmed entirely in the Big Apple, "The Defenders" is steeped in the culture and custom of NY, a real-life backdrop that feels more organic than the fictional cities of Gotham or Metropolis. It remains to be seen if "The Defenders" can elevate the character to a better standing. (Can it just be August 18th already??) But, we're still finding out more about what we can expect from the new show.

The group's first meeting doesn't augur well for things to come, with Luke Cage and Danny Rand - alias the Iron Fist - even coming to blows.

Action scenes, when they occur in these set-up episodes, thankfully fall more into the Daredevil school than the Iron Fist one, with well-choreographed set pieces emphasising the more grounded skill set of these characters. The series is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. "We don't know how this is all going to end up, how it's all going to play itself out". We get to see each individual hero throw down, see them fight in various smaller (but still awesome) combinations, and, of course, fighting as a complete unit.
