India urged to take seriously China's position document, withdraw trespassing troops

  • China warns India of 'serious consequences' over border

In a fresh salvo, an article in the Global Times has said that China will not let the Doklam standoff go on for too long and could take up a small military operation to oust the Indian soldiers from the region within two weeks.

The stand-off between India and China emerged after Chinese troops were stopped by the Indian Army from constructing roads along the Doklam border. China claims the region as its own, even as it belongs to Bhutan and there was a 2012 agreement between the countries that any change in the status quo would be done in consultation with the three parties - India, China and Bhutan.

Also, news agency PTI quoted Zhanwu as saying that the exchanges and cooperation between China and India would contribute to the overall atmosphere of the relationship.

The road China is trying to build leads towards the Indian border and could prove strategically useful to the east Asian superpower.

Desai also suggested that India should not make the mistake of equating the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) with the Pakistani Army. America can not stand up to China without Indian help.

"It will be in the interest of both the nations that they act in a mature manner and seek a solution diplomatically rather then threatening each other of war", he said.

An editorial published in the Global Times claimed that the Chinese PLA has "sufficient preparation for military confrontation" and that it would be "a war with an obvious result".

The ongoing diplomatic communication between China and India on the stand-off has nothing to do with the current military face-off in Doklam Plateau, China has said.

"Under such circumstances, instead of deeply reflecting on its mistakes, the Indian side fabricated such sheer fallacies as the so-called "security concerns", the "issue of tri-junction" and "at the request of Bhutan" as excuses to justify its wrongdoing", it said.

China and India have always been suspicious of each other, a legacy of the 1962 border war, India's playing host to exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and China's close relations with India's regional rival Pakistan.

The nature of Sikkim standoff is completely different and Doval had met Yang as State Councillor of China and not as the Special Representative for boundary negotiations with India, a Chinese diplomat said.

India on Wednesday had reiterated that peace and tranquility along Indo-China border is an important prerequisite for smooth development of bilateral relations between the New Delhi and Beijing.

"We want to give peace a chance and allow India to recognize the grave consequences".

"It has already been more than a month since the incident, and India is still not only illegally remaining on Chinese territory, it is also repairing roads in the rear, stocking up supplies, massing a large number of armed personnel".
