The Kremlin has censured a recent decision by the European Union to broaden the scope of its anti-Moscow sanctions list over Russia's delivery of Siemens gas turbines to Crimea, saying the provocative move was "against the worldwide law".
It said in a statement Friday that the turbines were sold to Russia by German electricity giant Siemens for use on Russian territory.
The European Union extended sanctions on Russian individuals and entities over the delivery of Siemans turbines to Crimea which violated prior EU restrictions due to the Russian annexation of the area. Western companies are now prohibited from doing business in Crimea.
Other EU sanctions on Russian Federation target its energy, financial and arms sectors.
Russia said on Saturday the European Union's decision to sanction a Russian deputy energy minister over the delivery of Siemens' turbines to Moscow-annexed Crimea was politically motivated and illegal.

"This decision contributes to the establishment of independent power supplies to the Crimea and Sevastopol, which supports their separation from Ukraine and undermines Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence", the report says.
Gas turbines are a substantial element in the development of new power plants, it pointed out.
Three companies, including Technopromexport, were also targeted by the new sanctions.
The EU sanctions in question consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban which will now apply to a total of 153 persons and 40 entities based in or affiliated with Russian Federation. "In order to use the USA gas it is necessary to construct big gas liquefaction plants in the United States, deliver gas to Europe and then utilize it in power grids", Alessandrello told Sputnik. The EU Council adopted these legal acts by written procedure.
