  • World Badminton Championships Bronze For Saina Nehwal Goes Down Fighting In Semis

PV Sindhu and Nozomi Okuhara took contrasting paths to the final of the BWF World Championships but make no mistake - they both are totally deserving of a place in the final. Meanwhile, Okuhara defeated Saina Nehwal 12-21, 21-17, 21-10 in the semis. One can jump the gun and say Sindhu may hold the edge considering she has got the better of Okuhara in the last two encounters, but this is a different stage, it is the all-important finals and nothing can be predicted. She had won bronze twice in the 2013 and 2014 editions.

According to reports from Times of India, it was the longest match of the World Badminton Championship, as it lasted for 110 minutes. Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal also won a bronze on Saturday after losing her semifinal. Stay tuned for the latest updates. After being a game down and trailing 5-16 in the second, Srikanth mounted an impressive comeback and narrowed the lead down to two points at 17-19.

After comfortably winning the opening game, Nehwal went down in the second before she rebounded strongly to register a 21-19, 18-21, 21-15 win over her Scottish opponent. He won the first round by 21-17 in just 22 minutes but she had no idea about the plans of Japan's shuttler.

Saina kept pace with her younger and sharper opponent but she got exhausted towards the end.

The second game was possibly the best of the three as the two finalists were engaged in long rallies, including one that lasted 73 shots.
