Kuznetsova said that the ECHR ruling is hard to accept from moral and ethical perspectives.

Charlie's parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, are now spending their final days at their baby's side.

United States president Donald Trump and the Pope have tweeted support for the young boy, who suffers from a rare genetic condition and has brain damage. The boy has trouble with basic life functions with his life itself being maintained by a ventilator in a British hospital.

But three courts, including the Supreme Court of England, have made a decision to detach Charlie from the vital life support, to give him "a dignified death", "in his own interest". Charlie's situation resulted in a worldwide debate over his fate.

"But I also know that no doctor ever wants to be placed in the awful position where they have to make such heartbreaking decisions". We have now learned that the Vatican-owned Bambino Gesu Children's Hospital reached out to the British hospital (Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children) and volunteered to take the baby.

Mariella Enoc, the president of the hospital, said: "I have asked the health director to check with Great Ormond Street Hospital if there are sanitary conditions for an eventual transfer of Charlie to our hospital".

Johnson told the Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano that legal obstacles prevent moving the baby.

Gard's case has created an global uproar and sparked debate over whether the government should be able to mandate "death with dignity" over a family's wishes to seek out experimental medication for their sick child.

PA HOPE Theresa May said she is confident doctors would consider help from abroad

The hospital has offered to keep Charlie on life support and allow his parents to decide "how to handle" ending his life, including when to switch off life support, it said.

On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Theresa May expressed her sympathy for the baby's parents, saying she understood why they would want to explore all options for their child.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, said the situation of Charlie and his parents "has meant both pain and hope for all of us", and he assured them of his prayers.

He said: "I've seen Charlie constantly, I've seen him every week since he was born, I've been there by the bedside and it's an terrible situation to be in". But the European Court of Human Rights refused to intervene last week.

Gard was born with a rare genetic condition and can not move or breathe on his own. "We also encourage the Catholic community to pray for Charlie, his parents and all those that have been caring for him".

The baby's plight has also attracted the attention of US President Donald Trump, who on Monday tweeted that the US "would be delighted" to help.

But they lost a legal battle with the hospital last month after judges at the European Court of Human Rights concluding further treatment would "continue to cause Charlie significant harm".
