The woman and her family allege the acid attacks are being orchestrated by people known to the gang-rape accused. The same attackers threw acid on her again in 2012 and 2013 to instil fear in her to drop the criminal charges against them.

Before this attack, two men had attacked her with acid on-board a moving train in March.

In May, a 23-year-old woman in the northern state of Haryana was gang raped by seven men, killed and smashed in the face with stones to hide her identity.

The woman, whose name can not be released for legal reasons, has survived four separate acid attacks and an alleged gang rape, the BBC reported on Sunday. She wrote the complaint as she could not speak.

The latest attack on her ignited widespread condemnation, with critics blaming the Adityanath government for what they said was a virtual breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

It also said an FIR was filed by the victim's husband and the field unit of the police visited the crime scene.

On 23 March this year, the woman had submitted a written complaint to the government railway police at Charbagh station alleging that acid had been forced down her throat on board the Allahabad-Lucknow Ganga Gomti Express.

The police, meanwhile, claimed that none of the eyewitnesses had seen anyone throwing acid or running away.
