The updated Google app with the new news feed is now being rolled out for Android and iOS devices in the USA, with more countries to follow soon. Only Google's will just be called "feed".
The news feed replaces the old Google Now tool, which also delivered personalized information with regards to weather, traffic, sports, and other things. We certainly won't defend the rise of big data or Google's use of targeted ads, but, in this case, it does have the benefit of helping the company create a more personal take on the traditonal news feed. Taking things a step further, Google has tweaked its feed, which it introduced last December to its Googleapp, to not only display information based on your interactions with Google, but also factor in what's trending in your specific area and around the world.
The Google feed (lowercase?) instead looks at what's popular around your town and the world, tying you closer to your community.
For example, if you spend your spare time reading about the band Waxahatchee or searching for antique clock parts, then news items and blog posts about those topics will appear in your feed - even if you don't follow them yourself.
Machine learning is a pretty big draw, but obviously, it's not going to be able to gauge your interests and disinterests accurately 100% of the time, especially at first.
Google Feed will suggest links based on a user's Googlesearch history as well as data from other Googleservices, such as YouTube, Gmail and Google Calendar, the company said. This button will allow you to selectively follow certain movies or TV shows, sports teams, musical artists, celebrities, and more.
Millions vote in Venezuela poll
Fox traveled to Venezuela Saturday with a group of Latin American former presidents to show support for the opposition referendum. The opposition blamed a "paramilitary" gang for the shooting, which prosecutors said they would investigate.
Feed is not entirely new though; it has been a part of Google Now since a year ago. And for Google, until now, they have mostly relied upon their algorithms to know what their user like and wants to see.
"A quick tap of the follow button and you'll start getting updates and stories about that topic in your feed", Google added.
"We want people to understand they're consuming information from Google", Sashi Thakur, a Google engineering vice president, told reporters.
The only way to access the updated news feed right now is by opening up the "Google" app on your phone.
The feed will takeover wherever Now was previously seen, including the Android and iOS Google Search apps, as well as the left-most page on your homescreen for devices like the Google Pixel.
