Trump tells senators House health bill 'mean'

  • President Donald Trump talks with Sen. Joni Ernst R Iowa in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington Tuesday

When House Republicans narrowly approved a far-right health care overhaul in early May, Donald Trump could hardly contain his glee. One extreme example: Greg Gianforte of Montana assaulted a reporter rather than answer questions about the bill the day before being elected to the House from that state.

South Dakota's John Thune, the number-three Republican in the Senate, who attended the lunch meeting, told reporters that President Trump was open to suggestions that some federal "cost-sharing payments" to health insurers under the PPACA continue in the near term. Will the Senate bill provide the same level of premium support for those 250,000 New Jersey residents, and will they still be able to use the online marketplace to find information about various insurance plans? Senators have said that the House bill was dead on arrival and they're quietly working on their own version that the two chambers will have to reconcile later on.

It would help if details of the GOP plan for Obamacare replacement were more widely circulated so millions of Americans would know what's in their future.

According to Politico, it is unlikely that the bill will be public for long before it is brought to the floor for a vote.

"We want to brag about the plan", Trump said. In June, Trump has decided the House bill he loved so much is mean and the secret Senate bill is fantastic.

Trump's White House budget officer Mick Mulvaney argued in a recent interview that it was as if the CBO "went into it and said, 'Okay, we need this score to look bad". Trump has said he might consider withholding them but insurers say that would wreak havoc in the markets.

Politico, citing sources familiar with Trump's meeting with senators, reported the president believes the House version of the bill is hard to defend, and said he'd like to see more robust tax credits for people who buy health insurance as individuals.

United States retail sales, consumer prices dip
Sales at building material stores were unchanged, while receipts at clothing stores rose 0.3 per cent. Owners' equivalent rent of primary residence advanced 0.2 per cent after a similar increase in April.

"Senate Republicans' attempts to pass Trumpcare in the dark of night, without any transparency is one of the most egregious examples of legislative malpractice in decades". The apparent goal is to get the legislation scored - a Senate requirement - and hold a vote before the bill or its effects are widely digested by the public.

Johnson has made the case that Republicans should not rush efforts to roll back President Barack Obama's health care law.

When my mother needed nursing home care, I learned about this fact in a hurry, as I had to have her qualify for Medicaid before she could even be admitted.

The sources say the president did not specify what aspects of the bill he was characterizing.

Perhaps the time has come for the president's critics to be a little more generous and a little less mean in the way they deal with him.

"Americans won't forget that @HouseGOP passed a "mean" bill to rip healthcare from millions then celebrated @ the WH", Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) tweeted. But not every Republican on that committee was aware that any rules for interviews had been changed, nor was the ranking Democrat. Time magazine led the pack this week with a list of five different points the president said he found praiseworthy in the House bill at that time. Lisa Murkowski and Maine Sen.
