Surprise: Texas Republicans love Trump and Democrats don't, new poll shows

Two-thirds of Americans, or 65 percent, think Trump doesn't have much respect for the country's democratic institutions and traditions or has none at all. Almost a third of Republicans and independents who lean toward the Republican party think Trump has little to no respect for the country's democratic institutions, and a quarter disapprove of the job he's doing as president.

And even though his presidency has had a rocky start, respondents still rated Trump higher than Congress when they were asked which of the the three branches of government they trusted the most. Trump's support among Democrats and independents has always been pretty dismal-but now things are growing worse among his own party and the demographic groups that largely thrust him into the White House.

When asked about Russia's impact on the 2016 election, only 8 percent of Republicans thought interference influenced the outcome, and only 9 percent of the same group thought that the Trump campaign and Russian Federation colluded in an effort to affect the campaign.

"The fact that he's even considering getting rid of Mueller is even more evidence that he thinks it's all about him and how he wants to control things", said Denmon, a 22-year Air Force veteran who said his vote for Trump last November was more against Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate, than for Trump.

Kerry knows of what he speaks: "Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that the Iran nuclear deal could hold even if President Donald Trump pulls out but he warned that imposing new economic sanctions against Tehran could be unsafe". "He only cares about him". "What he's trying to do is good". Republicans in Texas are still satisfied, with 66 percent saying Trump is honest and trustworthy and 80 percent saying he's competent. That's slightly higher than the 33 percent who disapproved in February's UT/TT Poll, but he continues to get more positive than negative reviews. Still, the Supreme Court, which many conservatives cited as their reason for supporting Trump during the presidential campaign, was the top vote-getter with 38 percent. The president announced earlier this month that he would from the 195-nation Paris climate deal and has made a concerted push to undo Obama-era environmental regulations.

Republican voters clearly have a favorite in Abbott, with 83 percent approving his job performance. An average of 34.8 percent of Americans think the country is moving in the right direction - up 0.5 percent, while 56.8 percent think the country is going in the wrong direction - down a full percentile from last week.

The AP-NORC poll of 1,068 adults was conducted June 8-11 using a sample drawn from NORC's probability-based AmeriSpeak panel, which is created to be representative of the USA population.

The internet survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted June 2 to 11 and has a margin of error of 2.83 percentage points.
