This happened while some locals started pelting stones at the security forces as they laid a cordon around the house where the terrorists were hiding.

Friday's attack comes despite an alert issued by police in wake of an increase in militant attacks in districts especially south of Srinagar.

Defence ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said, "The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Naushera sector around 5.15 am on Friday". They had joined the militancy a year ago, said the police.

The separatists' shutdown and the authorities' restrictions impacted daily life in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday.

Mehbooba said she has been warning of the risky consequences of violence time and again and appealed the civil society to rise to the occasion to make the future of J&K's younger generation peaceful.
