Israel said to be source of intelligence Trump revealed to Russians

Today's pushback from Mr Trump comes after a Washington Post report, later confirmed by other media outlets, said he jeopardised a critical intelligence source by disclosing information that had been regarded as highly secret, even inside the United States government. Coming days before Trump's first trip overseas, it also raised questions about his standing with world leaders and led some countries to start second-guessing their own intelligence-sharing agreements with the U.S.

Putin spoke at a time when in the USA, talk of impeaching Trump has migrated from the fringes of political discourse to the mainstream, as NPR's Domenico Montanaro reports.

When Trump fired Comey, he said he did so based on Comey's very public handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe and how it affected his leadership of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Late Tuesday afternoon, The New York Times reported that Mr. Trump had asked Mr. Comey in February to drop a federal investigation into Mr. Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

It was unclear precisely where they were coming from or what they were - but after a reporter tweeted about the noise, White House staffers quickly turned up the volume on the office television, blaring a newscast loudly enough to drown out any other potential noise.

In the span of a single week, Mr. Trump has been engulfed by two political crises.

Trump's national security adviser also insisted Tuesday the story was no big deal.

He said the subsequent leak to the Washington Post meant ISIS now knows what Russian Federation knows.

The deepening sense of turmoil emanating from the White House is alarming US allies overseas and prompting public expressions of concern from Republican lawmakers. "Firing an Federal Bureau of Investigation director who is investigating the president's campaign, disclosing classified information to a country that wishes us harm and just finished undermining the integrity of our elections". He added that he wants the House intelligence committee fully briefed on what, if anything, was shared with the Russian officials. Corker called what's happening in the White House a "downward spiral".

H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser who grew up in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, said the exchange "didn't happen" on Monday.

"In terms of the specifics, I can't, I can't - I have no basis for comparison on what was shared with what country", McMaster said. "And in fact, when I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story.'" Trump told NBC.

The top Democrat in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, called on the White House to make transcripts of the Oval Office meeting with the Russians available. "The idea that this is Kumbaya, even between Britain and the USA, or Canada and the US, is incorrect", said Ms. Kayyem.

According to the report, Trump provided Russian officials with information regarding the possibility of jihadists using laptops to carry out some type of terrorist attack on commercial flights, claims that McMaster did not mention in the denial. If other government officials reveal secrets, the consequences could range from losing their job to getting indicted. "Revealing classified information at this level is extremely risky and puts at risk the lives of Americans and those who gather intelligence for our country".

"This is the last place in the world I wanted to be", he said, nervously, as he was pushed for information.

However, Collins disputed the wisdom of revealing information.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday that the American people should be concerned that someone is "selectively leaking information and facts" about the Trump administration to "create a narrative" and further an agenda.
