Google Fuchsia Operating System Gains New Look Interface

Fuchsia, the mysterious new operating system under development at Google.has acquired a user interface.

Check out Ars Technica's screenshots of Fuchsia to get a look at Google's new OS. It has a card-based setup designed specifically for smartphones and tablets.

From what we've seen, Fuchsia looks to have taken UI influences from Material Design, Chrome OS, and even some aspects of Android.

The home screen in Fuchsia an image of the user profile that's now logged in at its center. Build using Google's Futter SDK, you can compile the code as and APK and run on your Android OS.

The "Stories" feature, unlike what you would find in Snapchat and Instagram, is located above the central home screen list. A third app can also be included.

The Beta version could shed a lot more light on the Android O and its capabilities, considering that developer previews are usually seriously buggy and what's more, are aimed at receiving developer feedback and letting them know what's coming rather than anything else. Luckily for us, the folks over at Hotfixit were able to piece together Fuchsia and Armadillo to come up with a functioning piece of software that runs as an Android app (thanks to its Flutter roots). You build a new one, of course.

This is a significant issue, as both Android and Chrome are based on the standard Linux kernel on top of which Google layered several of its own enhancements over the years. Apparently, Fuchsia is more than a hobby for Google, and the operating system represents a major endeavor for the company.

The Ars Technica rightly points out that there is no evidence as to Google's intentions with this operating system just yet. Tapping on the profile picture brings up the menu which is similar to Android's quick settings. And speaking of apps, the cross-platform Flutter SDK will allow Android developers to quickly port over their apps to Fuchsia. Then again, it's also possible that the OS will remain pretty obscure well past the half-decade mark, much like Microsoft's Midori. It's also hard to tell what Google's plans are for the operating system.

The package containing the Armadillo interface allows you to maintain a first contact with a user system that appears to be a large vertical scroll page with space reserved for "cards" (or perhaps applications?).
