  • Candidate for Army secretary withdraws amid heavy criticism

Angella Reid, the first woman and only the second African American to be the chief usher at the White House has been fired.

Specifically, she said that Reid was let go "on very good terms", and said there was "nothing more" to the firing than standard turnover between administrations.

The White House chief usher has traditionally been a job which boasts a long tenure with employment of the residence staffer remaining in place during changes of presidential administrations.

The Washington Post reports, "When the White House residence staff arrived at work Friday morning, they were told that Reid was no longer employed". He said the job, part of the permanent White House staff, is usually unaffected by politics, and staffers generally stay in their positions for a long time.

Reid is one in a short line of White House ushers - only nine people have held the title.

News of Reid's departure was first reported by The Washington Post.

Spicer: Trump 'stands by' description of Obama as evil
The president insisted that he had his own opinions and that Dickerson could draw his own conclusions about what Trump meant. Since Trump tweeted that claim in early March, Obama's camp thoroughly disputed the accusation .

The position is not political so it's highly unusual for someone to be fired from the position at the beginning of a new administration. Reid was hired under President Obama in October 2011. They also work closely with the first family.

Reid joined the White House from the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain, where she was general manager of the Pentagon City location. "Otherwise it comes off as cruel", said Brinkley.

Some White House insiders claiming to have inside knowledge of the environment surrounding the chief usher and the staff claim tensions have emerged among the residence workers supervised by Angella Reid.

Cruelty? In Donald Trump's White House? In fact, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders commented on the firing during her Friday afternoon briefing, filling in for Sean Spicer, and had nothing but nice, complimentary things to say about Reid.

'The Trump administration seems anxious about Obama's spies, and there may have been a feeling that she wasn't on page with the Trumpians, ' he told the Washington Post.
