FBI director 'nauseous' at thought Clinton investigation affected US election

Comey cited the meeting on the tarmac between former President Bill Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch previous year as a sign he was anxious about leadership at the Justice Department's handling of its investigation.

Axelrod was asked to comment on Clinton's remarks from Tuesday, when she said that FBI Director James Comey's letter to Congress played a role in her loss to President Donald Trump, as well as WikiLeaks, sexism, and Russian Federation.

Mrs Clinton said she has been going through the "painful" process of reliving the 2016 contest while writing a book.

Echoing earlier comments, Clinton spoke with CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Monday about Comey, saying his October 28 letter to Congress was among the reasons she believes she lost.

James Comey on Wednesday said that it makes him "mildly nauseous" to think that he might have had an impact on the 2016 presidential election while also defending his decision to brief Congress on a Hillary Clinton email probe.

Comey confirmed in March that the FBI is conducting a counterintelligence investigation into Russian influence on the election, including any possible contacts between then-candidate Donald Trump 's associates and Moscow.

It was released less than two weeks ahead of election day and triggered wide speculation that the FBI had reopened its investigation into Clinton's private email server.

The former Secretary of State also pledged to "publicly request" that the Trump administration "not end our efforts making women's rights and opportunities" central to USA policy.

The FBI obtained a warrant to search the laptop and sifted through thousands of emails, Mr Comey said, including ones with classified information that had been forwarded to the laptop by Ms Abedin to be printed out.

Rep. Adam Schiff, of California, said Comey's decisions to talk publicly about the Clinton probe and not say anything about the Trump investigation was a violation of FBI policy. When asked by Republican Sen. "Concealing, in my view, would be catastrophic - not just to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but well beyond".

Comey was asked if he was looking into whether FBI agents may have leaked information about the Clinton investigation.

FBI Director James Comey testifies before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on May 3, 2017.

Many thought she was shirking responsibility for her role in her own campaign and chief among her critics was President Donald Trump, who quickly took to Twitter to call Mrs Clinton out.

FBI Director James Comey says that Russian Federation is the "greatest threat of any nation on Earth, given their intent and capability".

Under questioning from Democratic Sen.

"I can't consider for a second whose political futures will be affected and in what way", Mr Comey said.

Turns out, the emails changed nothing about the FBI's investigation. It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some kind of impact on the election.

"If I were not to speak about that, it would be a disastrous, catastrophic concealment", Comey said, repeatedly hitting his hand on the table in front of him.
