  • Tesla recalls 53000 Model S, Model X vehicles for parking brake

Tesla might have a huge problem on its hands as the company has issued a voluntary global recall for 53,000 Model S and Model X vehicles to fix a malfunction in the parking brakes. The company said a small gear fitted inside the vehicles could have been improperly built by its third-party supplier. Tesla said it has no impact on the regular braking systems and doesn't represent a direct risk to safety, but the auto could stay stuck in park if a certain part breaks.

Tesla said there have not been reports of the parking brake system failing to hold a parked vehicle or failing to stop a vehicle in an emergency, adding that the issue does not affect the vehicles' regular braking systems.

The Tesla recall is global and includes 53,000 vehicles.

Tesla issued a voluntary recall Thursday for 53,000 vehicles built in 2016 for a faulty parking brake that could remain engaged.

He said that at the news conference he would discuss progress at the VA since he took office on January 20. Trump said. "We will fight each and every day to deliver the long-awaited reforms our veterans deserve".

The issue was discovered after Tesla learned that some owners had received alerts to have their parking brakes serviced, says a report from Jalopnik. An appointment will be scheduled at local service centers from where parts can be replaced with an estimated time of 45 minutes given by the company.

Tesla will be sending out a recall notice to its customers, it will contain information on how the parking brakes can be replaced. That recall, which did not result in any injuries or property damage, was reported by Bloombeg in December 2016.

"Service capacity will not be an issue", a Tesla spokeswoman said in an email, noting that the mobile technicians will be able to handle the fix. Tesla, in the past, has also recalled 2,700 Model X units due to the problems in third-row seats.

The broken gear can't cause any harm to the driver or passengers (hence the voluntary recall), but if it happens then the auto will not be drivable. Tesla's stock price surged to an all-time high of $313.73 on Monday, 10th April 2017, sending the market cap to over $51.5 billion.
