Louis Sues Rams, All 31 Other Teams Over Relocation

13 April, 2017, 02:33 | Author: Glenda Knight

On Wednesday, the city of St. Louis sued the NFL and all of its teams and owners, alleging the league violated its relocation guidelines.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in St. Louis Circuit Court also names the NFL's 32 teams as defendants and seeks unspecified damages and restitution.

The suit also accuses the Rams and owner Stan Kroenke of fraudulent misrepresentation and the National Football League - specifically Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones - of intentionally interfering with the business relationship between the Rams and St. Louis' by "encouraging, promoting, and conspiring with the Rams to develop a plan to relocate the Rams to Los Angeles and convincing the other member-teams to approve the relocation".

The NFL says there is "no legitimate basis" for the lawsuit.

It also said that "Rams representatives acknowledged the strong fan support in St. Louis and knowingly made the following false statements regarding the team's intent to engage in good faith negotiations and to stay in St. Louis".

Victor Baez, the Royals' Dominican Academy coordinator and a father figure to Ventura, was in the Buck O'Neil seat. Oakland has committed an error in six straight games and lead the American League with nine fielding miscues.

The city of St. Louis, on the other hand, is saying the process was not fair and that the National Football League never meant to negotiate with honest intentions with the city.

Kroenke and the Rams soon began contemplating a new home after the decision by the St. Louis CVC, with Los Angeles emerging as their desired location after Kroenke got control of almost 300 acres of open land in Inglewood on which he hoped to build a new stadium as part of a massive multi-use development project. It notes that Forbes estimated the value of the team more than doubled after it moved to Los Angeles.

Fair process or not, however, a lawsuit isn't going to give St. Louis the Rams back and when it comes to protecting the shield, Roger Goodell is a pro.

The city and other plaintiffs in a statement claim the NFL, the most popular US sports league, failed to follow its own guidelines for franchise relocation even as it induced the city to spend "considerable time and money to generate a compelling new stadium development". In total, the city will have lost more than $100m in net proceeds.

The lawsuit is among several filed over the Rams' departure. Another suit filed by the regional sports authority seeks to keep the Rams from obtaining the team's former practice facility in St. Louis County for $1 in 2024, as spelled out in the team's original lease.
