Livingstone must be expelled over comments, says FM

  • Ken Livingstone is expected to learn whether he will be expelled from the Labour Party over his controversial claim that Adolf Hitler supported the creation of a Jewish state

The former London mayor - who has been suspended since April a year ago - had claimed Hitler supported the creation of a Jewish state.

Party leader Jeremy Corbyn responded Wednesday by calling for a fresh investigation into subsequent remarks made by Livingstone since his suspension in April previous year.

Labour's shadow attorney general Shami Chakrabarti, who authored a controversial probe (branded a whitewash by UK Jewish leaders) into anti-Semitism within Labour previous year, was quoted by the Daily Telegraph saying, "Ken Livingstone was fairly and rightly found guilty of bringing the Labour Party into disrepute".

"My party is not living up to its commitment to have a zero-tolerance approach to anti-Semitism".

We have called for the NEC to consider a new disciplinary process based upon Ken's subsequent remarks and triumphalism after the verdict.

Shortly after a Labour disciplinary panel upheld anti-Semitic charges against him, the former London mayor said we would not apologize for his remarks made in April previous year regarding Hitler and Zionism.

"It is deeply disappointing that, despite his long record of standing up to racism, Ken has failed to acknowledge or apologise for the hurt he has caused". And ask them to check whether what I said is true or not.

He was suspended late on Tuesday for two years, a measure that will expire in April 2018 to take into account the period of suspension already served.

Many Labour MPs and peers are furious that the matter has not been closed and Livingstone expelled.

'Only time will tell' on improving US-China trade
China Daily said both parties appeared "equally enthusiastic about the constructive relationship they have promised to cultivate". There were "a thousand reasons" to make the China-U.S. relationship work, with "no reason to break it", Xi told Trump.

Mr Dugher said: "This looks like an embarrassing fudge".

"The big difference is that, though I said that Hitler supported Zionism, MPs like John Mann were immediately claiming that I said Hitler was a Zionist".

"Scheduling the final day of this disciplinary hearing, on the day the Labour Party launched its campaign for the May 4 elections, was a supreme misjudgment by whoever planned this in the Labour Party headquarters".

Critics, including some within Labour, said Livingstone should have been permanently expelled.

Mr Livingstone has vowed to fight the suspension, insisting he had not damaged the party and had told the historical truth.

It comes just hours after a previous 11 month investigation into alleged anti-Semitic comments made by the former London Mayor reached a conclusion and opted to suspend him from the party.

The former London mayor will later be told by party bosses whether he is allowed to stay in Labour following his anti-Semitism row past year.

She added: "As a teenager, I joined the party whilst living in the heart of the Jewish community in Hampstead".
