Doctor prescribed meds for Prince in another name

April 21, 2016: Several hours after Prince's body is found, investigators obtain a search warrant and search Paisley Park, obtaining dozens of pills.

Schulenberg is the same doctor who was at Paisley Park on April 21 (the day of Prince's death) when deputies arrived on scene and the same doctor who admitted to authorities, he prescribed Oxycodone for Prince on April 14, the day before he overdosed while returning from a show in Atlanta, forcing his plane into an emergency landing.

A day before Prince's death, on April 20, Johnson picked up the prescriptions under his name; he told county investigators that "this was the first time he had ever done something like that for Prince".

Between April 21 and September 19, 2016, Carver County authorities conducted investigations into Prince's death with a total of 11 search warrants.

Shortly before his death, Prince had sought the help of a local physician as well as a California-based addiction treatment expert, Howard Kornfeld, who sent his son, Andrew, to evaluate Prince. Johnson ultimately told investigators that Prince battled both addiction and withdrawal prior to his death.

An online search reveals a multitude of sources that say that capsule is a mixture of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, a prescription classified as a narcotic.

A Minnesota defense attorney who's well-versed on drug cases says prosecutors are unlikely to pursue charges against a doctor who allegedly wrote a prescription for Prince in someone else's name.

Authorities also searched Johnson's cellphone records, to see who he was communicating with in the month before Prince died.

Schulenberg's attorney, Amy Conners, said in a statement that Schulenberg never prescribed opioids to Prince directly nor to another person with the intent of giving them to the singer.

They don't reveal answers, but do shed light on Prince's struggle with addiction to prescription opioids in the days before he died. The Kornfelds' attorney, William Mauzy, has said Andrew had meant to give the medication to a doctor who planned to see Prince on April 21. Some were in a suitcase labeled with a Prince alias, Peter Bravestrong, along with a page of handwritten lyrics to the 1987 hit "U Got the Look". The medications were prescribed by Dr. Schulenberg.

Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in a lift at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis on April 21 previous year.

The unsealed documents confirmed reports from law enforcement sources previous year that multiple prescription painkillers were found in Prince's home, belying his public reputation for living a clean and healthy vegan lifestyle.

"The oxycodone in this case is only tangential to the whole case", Tamburino said.

The probe included searches of Prince's computer, cellphone records of his friends and interviews with his associates. Emergency responders administer a shot of Narcan, an opioid antidote, and take him to the hospital. Kornfeld can not clear his schedule to fly to Minnesota immediately, so he sends his son, Andrew, on an overnight flight. Complaints typically take 90 to 120 days to resolve, she said.

Laws against prescribing with a false name are not usually enforced when a doctor intends to protect a celebrity's privacy, said Los Angeles attorney Ellyn Garofalo.
