Carter Page: Reports on Trump campaign, Russian Federation are 'false narratives'

  • FBI used Trump dossier to justify monitoring of ex-aide: report

Carter Page (right), a former foreign policy adviser to President Donald Trump, denied recent claims that Russians used him to infiltrate Trump's election campaign. In the months that followed, they said, more evidence came to light, including intercepts of Russian officials discussing Mr. Page and other Trump associates. But if there is something worth investigating, as most people - including seemingly Page himself here - would agree, then it's not "meddling" to look at the guy who keeps running into Russian spies. This monitoring was allegedly connected to the FBI's investigation of possible ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Page is one of several Trump advisers that United States and European intelligence found to be in contact with Russian officials and other Russians known to Western intelligence during the campaign, according to multiple U.S. officials.

USA intelligence agencies have concluded that state-sponsored Russian hackers were responsible for the hacks, which drove public opinion downward about both the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign. The FBI obtained a FISA court warrant to monitor Page during the election.

Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, speaks at a news conference at RIA Novosti news agency in Moscow, Russia, Monday, Dec. 12, 2016. (2) Further, Page met with Russian oil company Rosneft, and CEO Igor Sechin (a Putin ally) dangled a 19% share of Rosneft in front of Page in exchange for him pushing to lift USA sanctions on Russia.

Far be it from me to suggest the Federal Bureau of Investigation was just looking for an easy way to fob off Obama administration pressure to validate its Trump-Russia talking points.

"Nothing I ever talked about with any Russian official extends beyond that publicly available immaterial information".

Smerconish asked Page again to directly confirm or deny the report.

Trump did eventually get around to congratulating the Patriots on their improbable victory - which he, of course, likened to his in last year's election.

Carter Page seems to be at the heart of the collusion story.

Campaign officials say there's no indication Page ever attended any national security meetings at Trump Tower. "You never met Mr. Trump, nor did you ever "advise" Mr. Trump about anything".

One, dated July 19, asserts that during his trip to give the commencement speech, Page met secretly with Igor Sechin, the president of Russian oil giant Rosneft and a close ally of Vladimir Putin's.

Steele's memos, which make up a 35-page dossier published by BuzzFeed in January, have not been fully corroborated. "This is according to several USA officials".
