Benjamin Netanyahu Speaks of Rising Anti-Semitism in Address to Australian Jewish Community

  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with US President Donald J. Trump in of the White House

This is the real question - whether Trump considers existing settlements on occupied Palestinian land as legal and valid before Israeli-Palestinian negotiations or whether he will adhere to global unanimity that the West Bank is under an Israeli occupation. However, were concerned about the unhelpful and sometimes even hurtful nature of SUPER's one-sided and harsh critique of Israel.

Most countries view such activity in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as illegal and an obstacle to peace but Israel disagrees, citing a biblical connection to the land. Despite the fact that Israelis and Palestinians live in close proximity to one another, there is little communication between them.

Just as South Africa's apartheid regime eventually had to come to terms with reality, so too will Israel, eventually, have to resolve its West Bank dilemma.

For the most part, the week went well. The incident was of course deeply upsetting for my friends who were present, not only because of the physical vandalism, but also because of the hatred and risky polarization that the student expressed by tearing down my poster.

She observes: "According to Friedman, most American Jews, many of whom happen to be liberals or progressives, are no different from the Jews who aided the Nazis during the Holocaust". The idea that somehow Israel is occupying land from a prior nation when the prior nation doesn't want it back I think is a bad misstatement of the law. On whether he would want to dive into Israeli-Palestinian negotiations as president, he said, "I think if I get elected, that would be something I'd really like to do". When messianic Jews repeatedly say, "it's all ours and only ours", it becomes much more hard to name and shame the Palestinians for saying the same. I noticed that the fear I felt when visiting my brother's Jerusalem apartment during a streak of Palestinian terrorism was similar to the fear of Bedouins I met in the Negev desert, living under the threat of home demolition. Most importantly, though, I learned that I was not the only one to feel caught in the middle.

Obviously, most Palestinians would not embrace a one-state solution in which they were denied full rights. Moreover, the Israeli government has taken Trump's victory and appointment of a pro- settlement USA ambassador as a green light for massive settlement expansion.

"Both sides will have to make compromises, you know that right?"

Yet, advocates of self-determination that we are, American policymakers have recognized that the former Jordanians, now Palestinians, in the occupied West Bank are entitled to the same self-governing rights as their neighbors. Neither side has of course opted for the one-state approach.

This perspective recognizes that militant jihadist entities like Iran and its vassal Hezbollah, Islamic State, al Qaeda and some elements of Hamas pose a far greater threat to regional and global security than does Israel; and that an Israel not preoccupied with aggression across the Green Line makes a far stronger ally.

This campus deserves nuanced dialogue on the conflict.

The soldier received much controversial support from the Israeli people, and huge criticism both by Palestinians and the global community, who confirm that the shooting was an extrajudicial execution against an incapacitated person in daylight.
